Description

Human LTE4 ELISA Kit

Human LTE4 ELISA kits are used to detect Cysteinyl Leukotrienes E4 (LTE4) in serum, plasma, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. LTE4, leukotriene E4, is the most stable of the cysteinyl leukotrienes, produced from arachidonic acid by the 5-lipoxygenase pathway in mast cells, eosinophils, basophils and macrophages. Leukotriene C4 is formed first, exported from the cell and converted to LTD4 and then to LTE4 by removal of amino acids, and LTE4 is excreted into the urine. It has weaker activity at the CysLT1 receptor than LTC4 or LTD4, but it promotes airway inflammation, mucus secretion, vascular permeability and eosinophil recruitment. Because it is stable and excreted, urinary LTE4 is used as a marker of whole-body cysteinyl leukotriene production, which is increased in asthma, aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease and other allergic conditions.
