Description

LTE4 ELISA Kit

LTE4 ELISA kits are used to detect Leukotriene E4 (LTE4) in serum, plasma, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. Leukotriene E4 (LTE4) is a lipid mediator of the cysteinyl leukotriene family derived from arachidonic acid. After 5-lipoxygenase and LTC4 synthase generate LTC4, sequential extracellular cleavage of a glutamic acid and then glycine from the glutathione moiety gives LTD4 and finally LTE4, the end product of the pathway. LTE4 is long-lived compared with its precursors, circulates in body fluids and is excreted in urine, and it can still elicit bronchoconstriction, increase microvascular leakage and recruit eosinophils. Measuring LTE4 provides an integrated readout of cysteinyl leukotriene biosynthesis, and raised levels have been associated with asthma, especially aspirin-sensitive disease, as well as with allergic rhinitis, mastocytosis and other inflammatory states.
