Description

Human MDH2 ELISA Kit

Human MDH2 ELISA kits are used to detect Malate Dehydrogenase 2 (MDH2) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. MDH2, mitochondrial malate dehydrogenase, catalyses the reversible conversion of malate to oxaloacetate using NAD as cofactor. It is a central enzyme of the tricarboxylic acid cycle, contributing to cellular respiration and energy production via the mitochondrial electron transport chain. MDH2 also takes part in the malate-aspartate shuttle, which transfers reducing equivalents between cytosol and mitochondria and so helps to maintain NAD to NADH balance and flux between compartments. Beyond its metabolic role, the enzyme has been reported to bind RNA in cells. Biallelic variants in MDH2 cause a severe early-onset developmental and epileptic encephalopathy, and altered MDH2 expression has been reported in several cancers, so it is studied in mitochondrial metabolism, neurodevelopmental disease and tumour biology.
