Description

Human MUC1 ELISA Kit

Human MUC1 ELISA kits are used to detect Mucin 1 (MUC1) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. MUC1, or mucin 1 (CD227, episialin), is a large transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on the apical surface of most glandular and ductal epithelial cells. It is cleaved into an extracellular alpha subunit with variable-number tandem repeats, and a beta subunit that spans the membrane. The alpha subunit forms a protective layer over epithelial cells and has both adhesive and anti-adhesive properties, whereas the cytoplasmic tail of the beta subunit takes part in signalling through ERK, SRC and NF-kappa B. MUC1 is overexpressed and aberrantly glycosylated in many carcinomas, where it has been associated with tumour progression. Its circulating form, CA 15-3, is used to monitor breast cancer treatment, and KL-6 is a marker of interstitial lung disease.
