Description

Human ND5 ELISA Kit

Human ND5 ELISA kits are used to detect NADH Dehydrogenase 5 (ND5) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. ND5, encoded by the mitochondrial gene MT-ND5, is a core membrane subunit of NADH dehydrogenase, also known as respiratory chain complex I. It belongs to the hydrophobic arm of the complex embedded in the inner mitochondrial membrane and takes part in proton pumping linked to electron transfer from NADH to ubiquinone. It is among the largest of the seven mitochondrially encoded complex I subunits and is essential for both catalytic activity and assembly of the complex. Variants in MT-ND5 have been associated with mitochondrial disorders including Leber hereditary optic neuropathy, MELAS-like syndromes and Leigh syndrome, so ND5 is investigated as a marker of mitochondrial function, oxidative phosphorylation and mitochondrial disease.
