Description

Human NPHN ELISA Kit

Human NPHN ELISA kits are used to detect Nephrin (NPHN) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants, urine and other biological samples. NPHN, or nephrin (encoded by NPHS1), is a transmembrane immunoglobulin-like cell adhesion protein and a structural core of the slit diaphragm, the specialised junction between the foot processes of podocytes in the kidney glomerulus. Nephrin molecules from adjacent cells interact to form the filtration barrier, and the protein is thought to anchor the slit diaphragm to the actin cytoskeleton and transmit signals that regulate podocyte structure and glomerular permeability. It also plays a role in skeletal muscle formation, through regulation of myoblast fusion. Mutations in NPHS1 cause congenital nephrotic syndrome of the Finnish type, with severe proteinuria from birth, and reduced nephrin expression has been associated with acquired glomerular disease, such as diabetic nephropathy.
