Description

Human ODC ELISA Kit

Human ODC ELISA kits are used to detect Ornithine Decarboxylase (ODC) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. ODC, or ornithine decarboxylase, is the enzyme that catalyses the first and rate-limiting step of polyamine biosynthesis, converting ornithine into putrescine, the precursor of spermidine and spermine. Polyamines are small polycationic molecules that are essential for cell proliferation and are implicated in processes ranging from DNA replication to apoptosis. ODC has a very short half-life and is tightly regulated by antizyme and by growth signals, and its activity rises sharply in rapidly dividing cells. Elevated ODC activity has been associated with many cancers, and it is a target of the inhibitor DFMO. Truncating variants that cause a gain of function lead to Bachmann-Bupp syndrome, with developmental delay, alopecia and macrocephaly.
