Description

Human PCIII ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human PCIII ELISA kits are used to detect Procollagen III (PCIII) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. PCIII, procollagen III, is the precursor form of type III collagen, synthesized by fibroblasts, smooth muscle cells and other mesenchymal cells and secreted with propeptide extensions at both ends. After secretion, specific proteinases remove these N- and C-terminal propeptides to produce mature collagen III, which forms fine fibrils in distensible tissues such as skin, blood vessels, lung, liver and the intestinal wall, often alongside collagen I. Because the amount of procollagen III reflects new collagen synthesis, it is used to follow connective tissue formation. Elevated levels have been associated with active fibrosis in the liver, lung, kidney and heart, as well as with wound repair, while mutations in the gene cause vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.
