Description

Human PGC ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human PGC ELISA kits are used to detect Pepsinogen C (PGC) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. PGC, or pepsinogen C, is the inactive precursor of gastricsin, an aspartic protease secreted by the chief cells and mucous cells of the stomach. In the acidic gastric environment the propeptide is removed to give the active enzyme, also called progastricsin in its zymogen form, which hydrolyses a wide range of dietary proteins as part of the first stage of digestion. A small fraction of pepsinogen enters the circulation, and serum pepsinogen levels, often combined with the ratio of pepsinogen I to pepsinogen II, have been used as markers of gastric mucosal status. Low levels may be associated with atrophic gastritis and an increased risk of gastric cancer, and PGC expression has also been studied in other tissues and tumours.
