Description

Human POLb ELISA Kit

Human POLb ELISA kits are used to detect Polymerase DNA Directed Beta (POLb) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. POLb, DNA polymerase beta, is a small repair polymerase that plays a key role in base-excision repair, the main pathway that removes damaged bases such as those caused by oxidation and alkylation. After a glycosylase excises the damaged base and an AP endonuclease nicks the backbone, POLb removes the 5'-deoxyribose-phosphate group through its lyase activity and then adds a single nucleotide to fill the gap, a step that is followed by ligation. The enzyme is expressed in essentially all cells, and because it acts at the centre of this pathway, changes in its activity can influence genome stability. Variants and altered expression of POLb have been reported in many cancers and may affect sensitivity to DNA-damaging chemotherapy.
