Description

Human PSEN1 ELISA Kit

Human PSEN1 ELISA kits are used to detect Presenilin 1 (PSEN1) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. PSEN1, or presenilin 1, is the catalytic subunit of the gamma-secretase complex, an intramembrane protease that also contains nicastrin, APH-1 and PEN-2. The complex cleaves many type I membrane proteins, notably the amyloid precursor protein, which generates amyloid-beta peptides, and Notch receptors, which releases a signalling fragment that regulates cell fate. Presenilin 1 is itself processed into N-terminal and C-terminal fragments and is found mainly in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi. Variants in PSEN1 are the most common cause of familial early-onset Alzheimer disease, usually by shifting amyloid-beta production toward longer, more aggregation-prone forms, so the protein is a central focus of neurodegeneration research and drug development.
