Description

Human RGN ELISA Kit

Human RGN ELISA kits are used to detect Regucalcin (RGN) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. RGN, regucalcin, also called senescence marker protein 30 or SMP30, is a calcium-binding protein found mainly in the liver and kidney. It was first described as a regulator of calcium-dependent cellular processes, and it modulates intracellular calcium signalling and the activity of calcium-dependent enzymes. It also acts as a gluconolactonase that catalyses the penultimate step in the synthesis of ascorbic acid in species that make it, although humans lack the final enzyme and cannot synthesise vitamin C. Expression declines with age in the liver and kidney, which is why it is regarded as a senescence marker, and it has been linked to protection against oxidative stress and apoptosis, so it is studied in ageing and in liver and metabolic disease.
