Description

Human Serpin F1 / PEDF ELISA Kit

Pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) is produced by cells called pigment epithelium-derived cells (PEC). PECs are found in the basal layer of the epidermis, which is the outermost layer of skin. These cells are responsible for generating pigments such as melanin, which give skin its color and protect it from sun damage. PEDF has been identified as one of three proteins that serve to control melanocyte proliferation; this means that PEDF plays an important role in regulating how many new melanocytes are created within an individual's body. PEDF is a protein that functions in the extracellular matrix of cells. It is a marker for cancer and it helps in the development of new blood vessels.
