Description

Human SGLT1 ELISA Kit

Human SGLT1 ELISA kits are used to detect Sodium/Glucose Cotransporter 1 (SGLT1) in tissue homogenates and other biological samples. SGLT1, encoded by SLC5A1, is an electrogenic sodium-coupled sugar symporter that actively transports D-glucose or D-galactose across the plasma membrane with a sodium to sugar ratio of 2 to 1, driven by the sodium gradient set by the Na/K pump. It is the main transporter of dietary glucose and galactose across the apical brush border of small intestinal enterocytes, with GLUT2 providing basolateral exit, and it works with SGLT2 to reabsorb glucose from the glomerular filtrate in the S3 segment of the proximal tubule. In enteroendocrine cells it acts as a glucose sensor that triggers secretion of GIP and GLP-1. Loss-of-function variants cause glucose-galactose malabsorption, and SGLT1 is a drug target in diabetes.
