Description

Human SNAP23 (Synaptosomal-associated protein 23) ELISA

The Synaptosomal-Associated Protein 23 (SNAP23) is structurally and functionally comparable to SNAP25, binds tightly to many syntaxins and synaptobrevins/VAMPs, and is similar in structure. The interaction of a vesicle-associated membrane protein termed synaptobrevin/VAMP with a target compartment membrane protein called syntaxin controls the specificity of vesicular transport. SNAP23 is an essential component of the general membrane fusion machinery and a key regulator of transport vesicle docking and fusion. In most, Synaptobrevin/VAMP and syntaxin are thought to be involved in vesicular transportation, whereas SNAP25 is limited to the brain, it has been suggested that given SNAP23 is structurally similar to SNAP25 it may perform similar functions in different tissues. SNAP25 binds to synaptobrevin/VAMP, a domain that serves as a binding site for the general membrane fusion machinery. Tetanus and hemo-phagocytic lymphohistiocytosis are two diseases linked to SNAP23. The translocation of GLUT4 to the plasma membrane and wtCFTR and delta508-CFTR movement/Generic schema (norm and CF) are among its associated pathways.
