Description

Human TBA ELISA Kit

Human TBA ELISA kits are used to detect Total Bile Acid (TBA) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. TBA is total bile acid, the combined concentration of the primary and secondary bile acids and their conjugates. Primary bile acids such as cholic acid and chenodeoxycholic acid are synthesised from cholesterol in hepatocytes, conjugated to glycine or taurine and secreted into bile, from where they enter the intestine to emulsify dietary fats and aid absorption of fat-soluble vitamins. Intestinal bacteria convert them to secondary bile acids, and most of the pool is returned to the liver through the enterohepatic circulation. Bile acids also act as signalling molecules through the FXR and TGR5 receptors. Raised serum TBA is a sensitive indicator of impaired hepatic uptake or biliary excretion, as seen in cholestasis and liver disease.
