Description

Human TCN1 ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human TCN1 ELISA kits are used to detect Transcobalamin I (TCN1) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, saliva and other biological samples. TCN1, or transcobalamin I (haptocorrin or R protein), is a vitamin B12-binding glycoprotein found in saliva, milk, plasma and other body fluids, and stored in the specific granules of neutrophils. It binds vitamin B12 (cobalamin) with femtomolar affinity and protects it from the acidic environment of the stomach, so that the vitamin can travel to the small intestine, where pancreatic proteases degrade haptocorrin and release B12 for intrinsic factor. Serum haptocorrin levels may be raised in myeloproliferative disorders, liver disease and some cancers, and they may be low in haptocorrin deficiency, so TCN1 is studied in vitamin B12 metabolism and as a tumour marker.
