Description

Human Ub ELISA Kit

Human Ub ELISA kits are used to detect Ubiquitin (Ub) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. Ub, or ubiquitin, is a highly conserved small protein of 76 amino acids that is covalently attached to other proteins through an isopeptide bond in a cascade of E1, E2 and E3 enzymes, and it can also exist free in the cell. It is encoded by several genes, including polyubiquitin genes that are cleaved into single units. Ubiquitin can be attached as a single unit or as chains linked through different lysine residues or the initial methionine, and the type of linkage determines the outcome: Lys-48-linked chains mainly target proteins for proteasomal degradation, whereas Lys-63-linked and linear chains regulate signalling, DNA repair and trafficking. Altered ubiquitin levels and ubiquitin-positive inclusions have been associated with neurodegeneration, cancer and cellular stress.
