Description

Human XDH ELISA Kit

Human XDH ELISA kits are used to detect Xanthine Dehydrogenase (XDH) in serum, plasma, milk and other biological samples. XDH, or xanthine dehydrogenase, also known in its oxidase form as xanthine oxidase, is a molybdenum-containing enzyme that is a key step in purine degradation. It oxidises hypoxanthine to xanthine and xanthine to uric acid, and its activity is highest in the liver, intestine and milk-producing tissue. The dehydrogenase form can be converted to the oxidase form by oxidation or proteolysis, and this form generates reactive oxygen species, so the enzyme also contributes to oxidative stress and to injury after ischaemia and reperfusion. It has low activity against aldehydes. Overactivity is associated with hyperuricaemia and gout, which is treated with xanthine oxidase inhibitors, while inherited deficiency causes xanthinuria, so XDH is studied in metabolism and cardiovascular disease.
