Description
Lysozyme for bacterial lysis
Lysozyme is a high-purity enzyme for lysing bacterial cell walls by hydrolysing peptidoglycan, used to prepare bacterial lysates for nucleic acid and protein extraction. It is supplied as a dry powder with its own Lysozyme Buffer for easy preparation of a 20 mg/ml working solution.
Lysozyme is an alkaline enzyme sourced from egg white. It cleaves the β-1,4 glycosidic bond between N-acetylmuramic acid and N-acetylglucosamine in the bacterial cell wall, breaking insoluble mucopolysaccharides into soluble glycopeptides. This ruptures the cell wall and lyses the bacteria. It is mainly used to digest Gram-positive bacterial cell walls during DNA and RNA preparation. For research use only.

Storage
Store at 2 ~ 8°C.
- Prepare the working solution
- Dissolve 20 mg of lysozyme powder in 1 ml of Lysozyme Buffer to make a 20 mg/ml working solution.
- Store any unused solution
- Aliquot the working solution and store at -20°C.
Q1: How do I prepare the lysozyme working solution?
- Dissolve 20 mg of lysozyme powder in 1 ml of the supplied Lysozyme Buffer to obtain a 20 mg/ml working solution.
Q2: Can I store the prepared lysozyme solution?
- Fresh preparation is recommended. If not used immediately, aliquot the solution and store at -20°C, avoiding repeated freeze-thaw cycles so that activity is not affected.
Q3: Which bacteria is lysozyme used for?
- It is mainly used to digest the cell walls of Gram-positive bacteria during DNA and RNA preparation.
