Lysozyme for bacterial lysis

Lysozyme is a high-purity enzyme for lysing bacterial cell walls by hydrolysing peptidoglycan, used to prepare bacterial lysates for nucleic acid and protein extraction. It is supplied as a dry powder with its own Lysozyme Buffer for easy preparation of a 20 mg/ml working solution.

Lysozyme is an alkaline enzyme sourced from egg white. It cleaves the β-1,4 glycosidic bond between N-acetylmuramic acid and N-acetylglucosamine in the bacterial cell wall, breaking insoluble mucopolysaccharides into soluble glycopeptides. This ruptures the cell wall and lyses the bacteria. It is mainly used to digest Gram-positive bacterial cell walls during DNA and RNA preparation. For research use only.

Key Features

Efficient cell wall lysis Cleaves β-1,4 glycosidic bonds in peptidoglycan to rupture bacterial cell walls.
Ideal for Gram-positive bacteria Mainly used to digest Gram-positive cell walls before DNA and RNA preparation.
Buffer included Dissolve the powder in the supplied Lysozyme Buffer to make a 20 mg/ml working solution.
