Description
Malondialdehyde (MDA) Colorimetric Assay Kit (TBA) (MAES0340)
The Malondialdehyde (MDA) Colorimetric Assay Kit (TBA) is a reliable and sensitive tool designed for the quantitative measurement of MDA content in serum, plasma, and animal tissue samples. MDA is a major end product of lipid peroxidation and serves as a widely used biomarker of oxidative stress, ferroptosis, and cellular damage. This kit utilizes the classical thiobarbituric acid (TBA) reaction, in which MDA reacts with TBA under acidic, high-temperature conditions to produce a red chromogenic compound with a maximum absorption peak at 532 nm, enabling accurate colorimetric quantification using a standard spectrophotometer.
The assay is optimized for use with a wide range of sample types, including human, rat, and mouse serum and plasma, as well as rat tissue homogenates (heart, liver, spleen, lung, kidney, and brain). With an analytical sensitivity of 0.38 nmol/mL, an average recovery rate of 101%, and excellent precision (intra-assay CV: 4.6-5.3%; inter-assay CV: 7.8-8.2%), this kit delivers reproducible results suitable for studies on oxidative stress, lipid peroxidation, ferroptosis, and related pathological processes in research areas such as cardiovascular disease, neurodegeneration, cancer, and inflammation.

Malondialdehyde (MDA) is a major end-product of lipid peroxidation and a widely used biomarker of oxidative stress. In this assay, MDA in the catabolite of lipid peroxide reacts with thiobarbituric acid (TBA) under acidic and high-temperature conditions (95-100°C) to produce a red-colored compound with a maximum absorption peak at 532 nm. The MDA content in the sample is quantified by measuring the absorbance at 532 nm using a spectrophotometer, and comparing it against a standard curve generated with a 10 nmol/mL MDA standard.
