Description

Mouse Biotin ELISA Kit

Mouse Biotin ELISA kits are used to detect Biotin in serum, plasma, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. Biotin, also known as vitamin B7 or vitamin H, is a small water-soluble vitamin that animals cannot synthesize and must obtain from the diet or from gut microbiota. It serves as an essential covalently bound cofactor for carboxylase enzymes involved in fatty acid synthesis, gluconeogenesis and the catabolism of branched-chain amino acids, and it also contributes to histone modification and gene regulation. Biotin is found in many tissues, with particularly high amounts in the liver, kidney and pancreas. Deficiency, which can arise from inherited biotinidase or holocarboxylase synthetase defects or from prolonged consumption of raw egg white, may cause dermatitis, hair loss and neurological symptoms, so biotin status is of interest in nutrition and metabolic research.
