Description

Mouse CAPN1 ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Mouse CAPN1 ELISA kits are used to detect Calpain 1, Large Subunit (CAPN1) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. CAPN1, or calpain-1 catalytic subunit, is the large subunit of mu-calpain, a calcium-regulated, non-lysosomal cysteine protease that is widely expressed. It partners with a small regulatory subunit and is activated by micromolar calcium concentrations. Calpains do not degrade proteins fully but cleave them at limited sites, which alters their activity, and in this way CAPN1 acts on substrates involved in cytoskeletal remodelling and signal transduction, such as CTBP1, and it can cleave and activate caspase-7. Overactive calpain has been associated with ischaemic injury, neurodegeneration and muscle disease, and variants in CAPN1 cause an autosomal recessive form of hereditary spastic paraplegia.
