Description

Mouse CARNS1 ELISA Kit

Mouse CARNS1 ELISA kits are used to detect Carnosine Synthase 1 (CARNS1) in tissue homogenates and other biological samples. CARNS1, or carnosine synthase 1, is an ATP-grasp domain enzyme that catalyses the synthesis of the dipeptides carnosine and homocarnosine, forming carnosine, which consists of beta-alanine and histidine, more efficiently than homocarnosine, which contains gamma-aminobutyric acid and histidine. Carnosine is present at high concentrations in skeletal muscle and in the brain, where it acts as an intracellular pH buffer, an antioxidant and a scavenger of reactive aldehydes. The enzyme is therefore central to the supply of these protective dipeptides, and it is studied in muscle physiology, neurobiology and metabolic research, where levels of CARNS1 may reflect the capacity of tissues to synthesise carnosine and resist oxidative stress.
