Description

Mouse Cys-C ELISA Kit

Mouse Cys-C ELISA kits are used to detect Cystatin C (Cys-C) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. Cys-C, or cystatin C (CST3), is a small secreted protein of the cystatin family that inhibits cysteine proteinases such as the cathepsins and so acts as a local regulator of their activity. It is produced at a steady rate by all nucleated cells, is freely filtered by the glomerulus, and is then almost completely taken up and broken down by the proximal tubule, so its blood concentration reflects glomerular filtration rate and is less affected by muscle mass than creatinine. Raised cystatin C has been associated with chronic kidney disease, cardiovascular risk and mortality. A variant form deposits as amyloid in the walls of cerebral arteries, causing hereditary cerebral amyloid angiopathy, and it has also been studied in Alzheimer disease.
