Description

Mouse GDF11 ELISA Kit

Mouse GDF11 ELISA kits are used to detect Growth Differentiation Factor 11 (GDF11) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. GDF11, also known as bone morphogenetic protein 11, is a secreted member of the TGF-beta superfamily that is closely related to myostatin. It acts as a signal during development to regulate anterior-posterior axial patterning of mesodermal and neural tissues, and it is required for normal vertebral patterning and orofacial development. GDF11 signals through activin type 2 and type 1 receptors, leading to phosphorylation of SMAD2 and SMAD3. Variants in the gene have been associated with a dominant disorder featuring extra vertebrae and ribs and orofacial anomalies. Circulating GDF11 has also attracted attention in ageing research, with reported effects on cardiac and skeletal muscle, although these findings remain debated.
