Description

Mouse GSDMD ELISA Kit

Mouse GSDMD ELISA kits are used to detect Gasdermin D (GSDMD) in tissue homogenates and other biological samples. GSDMD, gasdermin D, is the executioner protein of pyroptosis, an inflammatory form of regulated cell death, and is expressed in immune cells such as macrophages and in epithelial cells. It exists as an inactive precursor in which an autoinhibitory carboxy-terminal domain restrains the pore-forming N-terminal domain, and cleavage by inflammatory caspases, such as caspase-1 and caspases 4, 5 and 11, releases the N-terminal fragment, which binds membrane lipids and forms pores. These pores allow release of mature IL-1 beta and IL-18, and lead to cell lysis, which helps defend the host against pathogens. Excessive GSDMD activation has been associated with sepsis, autoinflammatory disease and tissue injury, so it is an important target in inflammasome and cell death research.
