Description

Mouse RNASE3 ELISA Kit

Mouse RNASE3 ELISA kits are used to detect Ribonuclease A3 (RNASE3) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. RNASE3, better known as eosinophil cationic protein or ECP, is a basic ribonuclease A family member stored in the secretory granules of eosinophils and released when these cells are activated. Although its ribonuclease activity is weak, it acts as a potent cytotoxin against helminths and also shows antibacterial activity, depolarising bacterial membranes and damaging the outer membrane, especially of Gram-negative species. These properties place it among the effector molecules of eosinophil-mediated host defence. Because it is released on eosinophil degranulation, RNASE3 has been used as a marker of eosinophil activation, and raised levels have been associated with allergic and inflammatory conditions such as asthma, although it can also contribute to local tissue damage.
