Description

Mouse SOD ELISA Kit

Mouse SOD ELISA kits are used to detect Superoxide Dismutases (SOD) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. SOD (superoxide dismutase) denotes a family of metalloenzymes that convert the superoxide radical into hydrogen peroxide and molecular oxygen, forming a first line of defence against oxidative damage. Mammals have three forms: copper-zinc SOD1 in the cytoplasm, manganese SOD2 in the mitochondrial matrix and extracellular SOD3, each encoded by a separate gene and expressed in most tissues. The hydrogen peroxide produced is then removed by catalase and peroxidases. SOD activity is a widely used measure of antioxidant capacity and of oxidative stress. Reduced activity has been associated with ageing, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and inflammation, and mutations in SOD1 cause a familial form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
