Description

Mouse TE ELISA Kit

Mouse TE ELISA kits are used to detect telomerase (TE) in serum, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernatants, urine and other biological samples. TE, or telomerase, is a ribonucleoprotein enzyme made of a catalytic reverse transcriptase subunit, TERT, and an RNA template component, TERC. It adds repeated TTAGGG sequences to the ends of chromosomes, compensating for the shortening of telomeres that occurs with each round of DNA replication. Telomerase is active in embryonic and adult stem cells, germ cells and activated lymphocytes, but is at low or undetectable levels in most somatic cells, so telomeres progressively shorten with cell division and ageing. Reactivation of telomerase in roughly 85 to 90 percent of cancers allows tumour cells to divide without limit, which makes it a prominent cancer biomarker and drug target.
