Description

PAF ELISA Kit

PAF ELISA kits are used to detect Platelet Activating Factor (PAF) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. Platelet activating factor, or PAF, is a potent phospholipid mediator, chemically an acetylated alkyl-ether phosphatidylcholine, produced by platelets, neutrophils, monocytes, macrophages and endothelial cells in response to inflammatory stimuli. It is formed by remodelling of membrane lipids through phospholipase A2 and acetyltransferase, and degraded by PAF acetylhydrolase. It acts through a single G protein-coupled receptor to trigger platelet aggregation, leukocyte activation, increased vascular permeability and bronchoconstriction. PAF also contributes to reproduction and to implantation. Excessive production has been associated with anaphylaxis, asthma, sepsis, ischaemia-reperfusion injury and necrotising enterocolitis, so PAF and its signalling are studied in inflammation, allergy and cardiovascular research.
