Description

PI ELISA Kit

PI ELISA kits are used to detect Phosphatidylinositol (PI) in biological samples. Phosphatidylinositol (PI) is a glycerophospholipid whose head group is the sugar alcohol inositol, and it is synthesised in the endoplasmic reticulum from CDP-diacylglycerol and inositol. It is a minor but vital membrane lipid, mostly found in the cytoplasmic leaflet, and it serves as the parent molecule of the phosphoinositides, formed when kinases phosphorylate the inositol ring at the 3, 4 and 5 positions. These derivatives, including PI4P, PIP2 and PIP3, regulate vesicle trafficking, cytoskeletal organisation, ion channel activity and signalling through phospholipase C and PI3 kinase. PI also anchors proteins to membranes through glycosylphosphatidylinositol. Disturbances in phosphoinositide metabolism have been associated with cancer, diabetes and neurological disorders, so PI is studied in lipid signalling research.
