Description

Rat AP13 ELISA Kit

Rat AP13 ELISA kits are used to detect Apelin 13 (AP13) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. Apelin-13 is a 13 amino acid peptide cleaved from the C-terminal end of preproapelin, and it is one of the shortest and most potent active apelin isoforms. Its N-terminal glutamine is often modified to pyroglutamate, which protects it from degradation. It is the ligand of the APJ receptor, a G protein-coupled receptor found on cardiomyocytes, endothelial cells, neurons and adipocytes. Apelin-13 produces vasodilation through nitric oxide release, increases cardiac contractility, promotes angiogenesis, and participates in regulation of fluid homeostasis, appetite and glucose uptake. Altered circulating apelin-13 has been associated with heart failure, hypertension, obesity, type 2 diabetes and preeclampsia, so it is studied as a cardiometabolic biomarker and as a candidate therapeutic peptide.
