Description

Rat APOA5 ELISA Kit

Rat APOA5 ELISA kits are used to detect Apolipoprotein A5 (APOA5) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. APOA5, or apolipoprotein A-V, is a minor apolipoprotein produced mainly in the liver and associated chiefly with HDL, to a lesser extent with VLDL, and possibly with chylomicrons. It is an important determinant of plasma triglyceride levels, both as a potent stimulator of lipoprotein lipase-mediated triglyceride hydrolysis and as an inhibitor of hepatic VLDL triglyceride production. It activates lecithin:cholesterol acyltransferase poorly, does not enhance cholesterol efflux from macrophages, and binds heparin. Variants in the APOA5 gene have been associated with hypertriglyceridemia and hyperlipoproteinemia type 5, with an increased risk of heart disease and pancreatitis, so APOA5 is studied in lipid metabolism and cardiovascular research.
