Description

Rat DMT1 ELISA Kit

Rat DMT1 ELISA kits are used to detect Divalent Metal Transporter 1 (DMT1) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. DMT1, divalent metal transporter 1, also known as NRAMP2 or SLC11A2, is a proton-coupled symporter that moves divalent metal cations across membranes with a proton to metal stoichiometry of one to one. It prefers ferrous iron but also transports cadmium, cobalt and manganese, and to a lesser extent zinc and nickel. DMT1 is essential for iron homeostasis, since it mediates absorption of dietary ferrous iron at the apical membrane of duodenal enterocytes and the export of iron from endosomes carrying transferrin in erythroid precursors and other cells. It also supports manganese uptake. Mutations cause hypochromic microcytic anaemia with iron overload. DMT1 is also studied in neurodegeneration, because it contributes to brain iron accumulation, and in metal toxicity.
