Description

Rat EDA ELISA Kit

Rat EDA ELISA kits are used to detect Ectodysplasin-A (EDA) in tissue homogenates and other biological samples. EDA, ectodysplasin-A, is a cytokine of the tumor necrosis factor family that mediates epithelial-mesenchymal signaling during the morphogenesis of ectodermal organs such as hair follicles, teeth and sweat glands. It is produced as a membrane-bound protein that can be cleaved to give a secreted form, and it acts as a ligand for the death-domain receptors EDAR and EDA2R, with different splice isoforms binding to either receptor exclusively. It may also take part in cell adhesion. Mutations in the gene cause X-linked hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia, the most common ectodermal dysplasia, characterized by sparse hair, missing or abnormal teeth and an inability to sweat, as well as selective X-linked tooth agenesis.
