Description

Rat KCC2 ELISA Kit

Rat KCC2 ELISA kits are used to detect Potassium Chloride Cotransporters 2 (KCC2) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. KCC2 is a neuron-specific potassium-chloride cotransporter encoded by the SLC12A5 gene, which moves chloride and potassium out of the cell in an electroneutral manner. Its expression increases as neurons mature, and in mature neurons it is the major extruder of intracellular chloride, setting the low chloride concentration that is needed for GABA-A and glycine receptors to allow chloride influx, hyperpolarisation and inhibition. Reduced KCC2 activity shifts GABA responses towards excitation and has been associated with epilepsy, neuropathic pain, spasticity after spinal cord injury, autism spectrum disorder and schizophrenia, and variants in SLC12A5 cause developmental and epileptic encephalopathy, so KCC2 is an important therapeutic target.
