Description

Rat SDH ELISA Kit

Rat SDH ELISA kits are used to detect Sorbitol Dehydrogenase (SDH) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. SDH, or sorbitol dehydrogenase, is a zinc-containing polyol dehydrogenase that catalyses the reversible NAD-dependent oxidation of sugar alcohols. It is most active on D-sorbitol, converting it to D-fructose, and also acts on xylitol, ribitol and L-threitol. As the second enzyme in the polyol pathway, which interconverts glucose and fructose via sorbitol, it provides an alternative route for glucose metabolism, and the pathway is believed to contribute to diabetic complications such as neuropathy and retinopathy when hyperglycaemia drives sorbitol accumulation. The enzyme may also support sperm motility by providing fructose as an energy source. Loss-of-function variants in the gene cause a recessive distal hereditary motor neuropathy, and elevated serum SDH is used as a marker of liver injury.
