Description

Rat TSH ELISA Kit

Rat TSH ELISA kits are used to detect Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. TSH, thyroid stimulating hormone or thyrotropin, is a glycoprotein hormone secreted by thyrotroph cells of the anterior pituitary, made up of a common alpha subunit shared with LH, FSH and hCG and a hormone-specific beta subunit. Its release is stimulated by hypothalamic TRH and suppressed by circulating thyroid hormones in a classic negative feedback loop. TSH binds its receptor on thyroid follicular cells to promote iodide uptake, hormone synthesis and release, and thyroid growth. Because small changes in free thyroid hormone lead to large changes in TSH, it is the most sensitive indicator of thyroid status. Raised levels are typical of primary hypothyroidism, while suppressed levels are seen in hyperthyroidism, and TSH is also relevant to pituitary disease.
