Human FGF0/FGF10 Recombinant Protein

Fibroblast growth factor 10 (FGF-10/KGF-2), is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family that includes FGF-3, -7, and -22. Mesenchymal cells secrete FGF-10 and collaborate with extracellular FGF-BP. It binds and activates epithelial cell FGFR2 more strongly than it binds and activates FGFR1. FGF-10 is an important regulator of embryonic development, cell proliferation, and cellular differentiation. It has mitogenic activity for keratinizing epidermal cells, but no activity for fibroblasts, which is comparable to that of FGF7. FGF10 is essential for proper branching morphogenesis. Autosomal dominant aplasia of the lacrimal and salivary glands (ALSG) is caused by FGF10 abnormalities. Affected individuals may have apical aplasia or hypoplasia of the lacrimal, parotid, submandibular, and sublingual glands with no lacrimal puncta. The disorder is characterized by irritable eyes, recurrent eye infections, epiphora (constant tearing) and xerostomia (dryness of the mouth), which increases the risk of dental erosion, dental caries, periodontal disease and oral infections.
