Human MBL2/MBL/COLEC1 Recombinant Protein

MBL (mannose-binding lectin) is an important complement system initiator, as it binds sugar structures on microorganisms and dying host cells. It is one of four known mediators that activate the complement system via the lectin pathway. The MBL and the ficolins (Ficolin-1, Ficolin-2, and Ficolin-3) are soluble collagen-like proteins that aid in the body's natural immune response. They bind sugar structures or acetylated compounds present on microorganisms and on dying host cells and they initiate activation of the lectin complement pathway in varying degrees. The gene MBL2 encodes the mannose-binding lectin, which is a critical component of the innate immune system and has been shown to be involved in type 1 diabetes and gestational diabetes. Common variant alleles situated both in promoter and structural regions of the MBL2 gene influence the stability and the serum concentration of the protein. MBL2 promoter and structural variants decrease the plasma concentration and oligomeric form of MBL. Bacterial and viral diseases are associated with having mutant alleles. In HCV infection, the MBL2 mutant alleles have been linked to disease development and therapy response. Human MBL2/MBL/COLEC1 Recombinant Protein is a highly pure recombinant protein developed by Assay Genie for use in a range of applications.
