Description

S1P ELISA Kit

S1P ELISA kits are used to detect Sphingosine-1-Phosphate (S1P) in serum, plasma, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. Sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) is a bioactive lysophospholipid formed when sphingosine kinases 1 and 2 phosphorylate sphingosine, which in turn arises from the breakdown of ceramide. It is degraded by S1P lyase and phosphatases, and its concentration in blood is maintained by red blood cells, platelets and endothelial cells, and is carried mainly by HDL and albumin. S1P acts through five G protein-coupled receptors, S1P1 to S1P5, and drives lymphocyte egress from lymphoid organs, vascular development and barrier function, cell survival, and migration. Altered S1P signalling has been associated with multiple sclerosis, atherosclerosis, cancer and inflammatory disease, and the pathway is targeted by drugs such as fingolimod, so S1P is studied in immunology and vascular research.
