Description

SIP ELISA Kit

SIP ELISA kits are used to detect Sphingosine 1 Phosphate (SIP) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. Sphingosine 1 phosphate, written here as SIP (usually abbreviated S1P), is a bioactive lysophospholipid formed when sphingosine is phosphorylated by the sphingosine kinases SphK1 and SphK2, and degraded by S1P lyase and phosphatases. It is present at high concentrations in blood, where it is carried mainly on HDL and albumin, and is produced by red blood cells, platelets and endothelial cells. S1P acts on five G protein-coupled receptors, S1PR1 to S1PR5, to regulate lymphocyte egress from lymphoid organs, vascular development and barrier function, cell survival and migration. Altered S1P signaling has been associated with autoimmune disease, atherosclerosis, cancer and fibrosis, and receptor modulators such as fingolimod are used in the treatment of multiple sclerosis.
