Description

Trp ELISA Kit

Trp ELISA kits are used to detect Tryptophan (Trp) in serum, plasma, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. Trp is the amino acid tryptophan, an essential amino acid that must be obtained from the diet and is required for protein synthesis. It is also the precursor of several important bioactive molecules, including the neurotransmitter serotonin, the hormone melatonin and niacin, as well as the kynurenine pathway metabolites. Most free tryptophan is degraded along the kynurenine pathway, which is driven in the liver by tryptophan 2,3-dioxygenase and in immune cells by indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase, an enzyme induced by interferon gamma. Because of this, the ratio of kynurenine to Trp is often used as an indicator of immune activation. Altered Trp levels have been associated with inflammation, depression, neurodegenerative disease, cancer immune evasion and metabolic disorders.
