Description

AA ELISA Kit

AA ELISA kits are used to detect Arachidonic Acid (AA) in serum, plasma, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. Arachidonic acid is a 20-carbon polyunsaturated omega-6 fatty acid, esterified in the phospholipids of cell membranes and released by the action of phospholipase A2. Once free, it is converted by cyclooxygenases into prostaglandins and thromboxanes, by lipoxygenases into leukotrienes and lipoxins, and by cytochrome P450 enzymes into epoxyeicosatrienoic acids, which together regulate inflammation, pain, fever, platelet aggregation, vascular tone and immune responses. It is obtained from the diet or synthesized from linoleic acid, and is abundant in brain, muscle and liver tissue. Because these eicosanoid pathways are targeted by drugs such as aspirin and other anti-inflammatory agents, arachidonic acid levels are studied in inflammatory, cardiovascular and cancer research.
