Description

Car ELISA Kit

Car ELISA kits are used to detect Carnosine (Car) in serum, plasma, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. Carnosine (Car) is a dipeptide made of beta-alanine and L-histidine, synthesised by carnosine synthase and found at high concentrations in skeletal muscle, heart and brain tissue, as well as in the olfactory bulb. It acts as an intracellular pH buffer, an antioxidant that scavenges reactive oxygen species and lipid peroxidation products, and a chelator of metal ions, and it can also react with reactive carbonyls to limit protein glycation. It is hydrolysed by carnosinase enzymes in serum and tissue. Muscle carnosine content is related to exercise capacity, and reduced levels have been associated with ageing and some neurological disorders, while lower carnosinase activity has been investigated in relation to diabetic nephropathy, so Car is studied in nutrition and metabolism research.
