Description

DHA ELISA Kit

DHA ELISA kits are used to detect Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. DHA is a 22-carbon omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid with six double bonds, obtained from oily fish and marine algae, and also synthesised in small amounts from alpha-linolenic acid. It is highly enriched in the phospholipids of the brain grey matter and in the retinal photoreceptors, where it contributes to membrane fluidity and the function of signalling proteins, and it accumulates rapidly in the fetal brain in late pregnancy. DHA is also the precursor of specialised pro-resolving mediators, including resolvins, protectins and maresins, which help to resolve inflammation. Lower DHA status has been associated with impaired neurodevelopment, cognitive decline and cardiovascular risk, so it is studied in nutrition, neuroscience and lipid research.
