Description

E3 ELISA Kit

E3 ELISA kits are used to detect Estriol (E3) in serum, plasma, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. Estriol (E3) is the weakest of the three main oestrogens and is a C18 steroid formed from estrone and estradiol through 16-alpha-hydroxylation. In non-pregnant women its levels are low, but during pregnancy concentrations rise dramatically because the placenta, working with the fetal adrenal gland and liver, produces large amounts, making it the dominant oestrogen of gestation. Estriol supports uterine growth and blood flow, and contributes to preparing the breast for lactation and the uterus for labour. Because its production depends on the fetal-placental unit, estriol is measured in prenatal screening research, where unconjugated levels form part of the triple test, and abnormally low values have been associated with certain fetal abnormalities and placental insufficiency.
