Description

Human ADH ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human ADH ELISA kits are used to detect Antidiuretic Hormone (ADH) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. ADH, or antidiuretic hormone, also known as arginine vasopressin, is a nine-amino-acid peptide hormone synthesized by neurons in the hypothalamic supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei and released from the posterior pituitary. It acts on V2 receptors in the renal collecting duct to promote insertion of aquaporin-2 water channels, increasing water reabsorption and concentrating urine, and on V1 receptors to cause vasoconstriction. Its release is stimulated by high plasma osmolality and by low blood volume or pressure. Deficiency causes central diabetes insipidus, with excessive dilute urine, while excess secretion causes the syndrome of inappropriate ADH secretion with hyponatremia. ADH levels are therefore studied in fluid balance, cardiovascular and neuroendocrine research.
